Thames Walk, 14 April
This was the second time that a team from Broadcasting Dataservices
has undertaken a walk along the Thames Path to raise funds for
us. The walks are in memory of one of their colleagues, Branka,
who died of breast cancer just over two years ago aged only 30.
The picture shows them relaxing in Marlow at the end of the walk.
London Marathon, 22 April
It was a beautiful day for spectators although our team of 14
would have preferred the temperature to be a couple of degrees
cooler. First home for Against Breast Cancer was Katie Cousins
with a great time of 3hr 39mins, followed closely by Jo Jordan,
3hrs 59mins. So far the team has raised over £25,000 –
thank you guys. We really appreciate it. In our photo, one of
our future hopefuls waits for her daddy to finish the run. Places
available for next year’s run on 13th April
Inca Trail, 27 April
‘I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life doing
the Peru Trek and the whole trip was exceptionally well organised’
this was Amanda’s comment when she returned from her trip
in April this year. The photo shows her at Macchu Picchu. Contact
us for 2008 dates for this trip.
Coast Path Walk, 28 April
In our last issue we mentioned the amazing walk planned by Martin
and Lynne - 600 miles of coast path between Minehead and Swanage.
Well they made it – and so did Murphy the dog, ‘I
absolutely enjoyed it and am glad I did it’ was Lynne’s
comment to her local paper. The two expect to have raised around
£4,000, which they will split between Against Breast Cancer
and the Retired Greyhound Trust.
Classic Oxfordshire Bike Ride, 13 May
It was quite a sight watching 644 intrepid cyclists set off in
that cold, damp misty weather. And things didn’t improve
- by midday it was raining hard but they soldiered on, un-deterred
by puddles and passing cars, following either the 30 mile or 60
mile round trip from Harwell. We were so proud of them all for
turning out.
Many of the participants were local – individuals, families
and teams from Wallingford, Wantage, Reading and Oxford. But they
also came from as far a-field as London, Sussex, Shrewsbury, Norfolk,
Isle of Wight, Kent and Essex. So far they have raised a magnificent
£43,000. Join us for next year’s ride on 11th May.
Moonlight Colourthon, 7 June
Southend Round Table hopes that this year’s Moonlight Colourthon
will be the first of many. 500 people signed up and walked a half
marathon at night dressed as brightly as their imagination would
allow. A number chose to use the event to raise money for Against
Breast Cancer. Thank you!
Haslam Homes, 15 June
Haslam Homes golf event took place on 15th June.

Oxfordshire Golf Day, 21June
On the 21 June The Oxfordshire Golf Club held their Charity
golf event in aid of Against Breast Cancer and raised a staggering
£13,000. The photo show Terry Gallagher presenting a cheque
to Anne Byard.
Charity Golf Tournament - Magnolia Park Nr Bicester,
22 June
This is 2007 so we had expected rain all day but the 21 teams
playing were pleasantly surprised with the mostly dry weather,
interspersed with a couple of short sharp showers. We were delighted
to be joined at dinner by Colin Dexter who entertained us with
his ramblings before awarding prizes to the competition winners
and a trophy to the top team, The Bus Boys; Stuart Cameron, Roger
Charlton and Dave Bracket. Our next tournaments are 19th October
at Frilford Heath nr. Abingdon and 13 June 2008 at Magnolia Park.
The Andy Gray and Gary McAllister Golf Classic, 2 July
The Andy Gray and Gary McAllister Golf Classic was, for
the third time, held for Against Breast Cancer at the beautiful
Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.
The main priority of the dinner was to raise money for Against
Breast Cancer – which is just what happened, with the auction
alone totalling over £40,000! Everyone was incredibly kind
with their bids and in return won some wonderful prizes.
The event was (also for the third time) sponsored by Westbridge
Foods and Pure International, who were both extremely generous
in not only providing funding for the day, but also entering teams
and being present for the whole time.
Unwanted Gift helps Against Breast Cancer research
Having been given a very generous gift of a Hot Air Balloon Ride
by a supplier Sally Bishop, who has no head for heights decided
to raffle the prize and raised £100 for Against Breast Cancer.
Thanks go to her company Ravenstock MSG Ltd for allowing her to
hold the raffle amongst her collegues.
