For the third year running Ember Inns ‘Drink
Pink’ campaign, launched to raise money for national
charity Against Breast Cancer, has surpassed the previous
year’s efforts with a fantastic £30,854
being raised for Against Breast Cancer.
Pub goers up and down the country were encouraged to
swap their usual tipple for a glass of rosé,
with 5p per glass being donated to Against Breast Cancer.
A particular pub of merit was the Ravensbury Arms in
Mitcham, which achieved the highest rosé wine
sales uplift across the group, a fantastic 90%.
Matthew Deane, senior marketing manager at Ember Inns,
comments: “Our Drink Pink campaign has been a
huge success for us over the last two years and we are
delighted that this year has once again topped previous
records.
“We were particularly keen to get all of our
managers behind the campaign this year as it is the
charities 15th anniversary. They have all done us very
proud not only in boosting rosé wine sales but
also by organising a host of local fund raising events
which have helped to unite our teams and guests in support
of a cause close to many people’s hearts.”
The Red Lion in Coventry for example raised more than
£2,000 by hosting a series of events including
a glamorous Drink Pink night whilst the Willow Tree
and the Apple Tree in Compton Acres went head-to-head
in a 2.5 mile charity barrel run, and the Horse and
Jockey in Sutton Coldfield treated its female guests
to a pink pamper day which raised £800 in aid
of the charity.
Anne Byard, head of fundraising at Against Breast Cancer,
commented: “We are so pleased that Ember Inns
choose to support Against Breast Cancer for the third
year and we are absolutely delighted at the amount they
have raised. We really do appreciate the efforts which
pub managers across the country have gone to and would
like to say a huge thank you to all of their guests
for help making this years campaign such a resounding
success.
“All funds raised throughout the ‘Drink
Pink’ fundraising campaign will contribute to
vital research work into diet and lifestyle that Against
Breast Cancer carries out on behalf of those living
with the disease and will also help us to recruit two
new biochemistry scientists which will take us even
closer towards finding a vaccine, and ultimately to
a future free of breast cancer.”
Since launching in 2006 Ember Inns ‘Drink Pink’
campaign has raised more than £75,000 for the
charity which has meant the charity has been able to
recruit 21 new hospitals and nearly 100 new patients
to its Diet & Lifestyle Study, the largest of its
kind in the world that now includes nearly 2,000 women
with secondary breast cancer.
The extra funds have also led to the recruitment of
a research assistant at University College London who
is collating all the information and communicating with
the 47 hospitals taking part in the study, allowing
them to analyse the data. The ultimate aim after the
analysis of all the data is to be able to give advice
on diet and lifestyle to women with breast cancer so
that they can take control of their own health and their
lifestyle.
Research shows that one in nine women in the UK will
be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
Against Breast Cancer carries out ongoing research work
into breast cancer secondary spread, with the aim of
increasing survival after treatment through research
into diet and lifestyle.
