The Oxford Women’s X1 Cricket Team are sporting
a new set of whites thanks to their new partner ‘Against
Breast Cancer’, a registered Oxfordshire charity.
Against Breast Cancer are offering their support to
the women’s team to win fresh awareness for the
ground-breaking work the charity carries out. The subsidised
kit is also the first glimpse the public will have of
the brand new look the charity is launching to mark
its 15th anniversary this year.
Team Captain Fitty Parker said, ‘We love our
new kit and are pleased to be associated with a charity
that funds unique research into breast cancer. We hope
our performance on the cricket pitch, especially at
our home ground at Horspath will draw attention to the
vital work they’re doing to find a vaccine against
the disease’.
Anne Byard, Against Breast Cancer spokesperson added,
‘Breast cancer is now the most common form of
cancer in the UK. Rates have increased by more than
50% in the last 20 years and it’s the most common
single cause of death amongst women aged 35-54 years.
A staggering 1 in 9 women in the UK will develop the
disease over time’.
‘Our commitment to finding a vaccine against
breast cancer needs more vital resources, as soon as
possible. By re-branding the charity and entering into
partnerships like this, we hope to extend our research
work far into the future to help realise our dream of
a world free of breast cancer. We wish our ladies every
success with the cricketing season and are looking forward
to them batting on our behalf’.
