THE
RED LION PUB RAISES OVER £2,000 FOR AGAINST BREAST CANCER
The team at popular Ember Inns pub, the Red Lion, on
Anstey Road in Coventry, has been celebrating its fundraising
success having helped raised more than £2,000
for Against Breast Cancer, after holding a series of
events as part of Ember Inns national Drink Pink campaign.
Over the past few months the team at the Red Lion have
been busy working closely alongside guest Dawn Blackby
to motivate their team and guests to get involved by
hosting a number of events, including a glamorous Drink
Pink evening for staff at the local Meriden Hospital,
who have been helping the Ember team achieve such a
fantastic total.
Dawn, a well-known regular at the Red Lion, comments:
“Having been diagnosed with breast cancer a year
ago, I was keen to work with John and the team to help
raise as much money as possible for this worthwhile
cause; especially having experienced first hand how
important their work is.
“John and his team have done a fantastic job
of not only raising valuable funds for Against Breast
Cancer, but also throwing some really fun nights for
their customers and everyone was delighted to have the
opportunity to get involved in helping boost the pubs
fund raising efforts.”
Other fundraising activity which got regulars delving
deep into their pockets included a sponsored head shave
by guests Ryan McCallister and David Moseley, who pulled
in the pounds by raising a pair of clippers to six months
worth of uncut hair.
“The team and I are thrilled to have raised such
a significant amount of money for Against Breast Cancer.
It is such an important charity and I would like to
take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generous
donations,” commented John Macguire, manager at
the Red Lion.
“Drink Pink is an annual campaign which we are
always proud to support, but this year we have been
determined to raise more money than ever before because
one of our guests, Dawn Blackerby, is actually recovering
from breast cancer herself. Dawn is currently undergoing
treatment but has still found the time to get involved
with the Drink Pink campaign. She is an example to us
all and everyone at the Red Lion sends their best and
hope she makes a full and speedy recovery.”
Anne Byard, head of fundraising at Against Breast Cancer,
added: “We are very grateful to John and the team
at the Red Lion for all of their efforts and continued
support. It is rewarding to know that people recognise
how important our work is and we would like to say a
big thank you to the guests at the Red Lion for their
continued generosity over the past few months.”
As part of the Ember Inns pub group, the Red Lion on
Anstey Road, Coventry (CV2 2EY) offers a warm, friendly
environment perfect for catching-up with friends over
a drink or a bite to eat.
Guests can also look forward to a host of exciting
events throughout the year, including weekly quiz nights
and festivals encouraging them to explore the best in
new wines, real ales and food.
