Regis
Classic Tour No 11 beats all previous fundraising totals!
The funds just kept rolling in after the 11th Regis
Classic Tour, generously sponsored by Frosts www.frosts4cars.co.uk,
finished in Cornwall this March and having just closed
the account for 2008, the ladies are more than thrilled
to announce the total raised has smashed all previous
total to reach £30,802.01.
The previous highest figure raised in a single year
was £26,192, so despite the recession, rising
fuel costs and the general down-turn in the economy
the result is just staggering!
The 11 year total raised by this annual event organised
by the ladies of Bognor Regis Motor Club has now reached
£224,290.99. Every year the funds are donated
to Cancer charities and this year the two lucky recipients
were Against Breast Cancer & Orchid – Fighting
Male Cancer – both receiving cheques for £15,401.00.
The planning for the 12th event is already underway,
the dates are 27th – 29th March 2009 and the event
will be based in Shropshire at the 4* Albrighton Hall
Hotel & Spa just north of Shrewsbury. www.mercure-uk.com
and click on the link to the hotel. This long running
event is already proving very, very popular with 44
deposits already received and the hotel already over
60% subscribed.
As in previous years, the tour seems to have a very
loyal following of “regulars”, many now
entering for the 8th or 9th time, so the ladies must
have the formula about right!
The format for the weekend is as follows: Arrive at
the hotel on Friday to sign on around 6pm. Enjoy a drink
and informal buffet dinner with a chance to meet old
and new friends.
After a good night’s sleep and hearty breakfast,
the first car will leave around 09.00 and return around
4.30pm. There will be an interesting and challenging
route of around 120 miles with a morning coffee, light
lunch and cream tea halt during the day at interesting
venues. After a relaxing swim, dress in your “Glad
Rags” ready for the pre-dinner drinks reception
where the ladies will be delighted to lighten your wallets
in return for some tombola envelopes with great prizes
on offer. Next item on the agenda will be the Gala Black
Tie Dinner, followed by our Auction raising more funds
for the two chosen charities in 2009 – Against
Breast Cancer & Orchid – Fighting Male Cancer.
The Auction items are all donated and already some great
lots have been promised! Auction lots include: A luxury
Break at Albrighton Hall Hotel & Spa, Limited edition
prints from Autosports Gallery.com, a unique hand-pieced
quilt from Jacky Woods and lots more. Then dance until
the early hours to a live band.
After breakfast on Sunday a slightly later start will
see cars heading off to explore more of this delightful
county and experience more local fayre, the tour will
finish around 3pm after a good lunch. This will allow
those needing to return home to get back at a reasonable
hour. For those extending their stay to return to the
hotel for a further night, they can either a) relax
in the hotel for the evening or b) include the optional
extra trip out by coach with the ladies.
For 2008 this was a coach trip to the Bodmin &
Wenford Railway for a evening ride on the train with
a finger buffet supper being entertained by a Jazz Band.
A very popular option as 95 participants booked to go!
A trip that proved very amusing with no-one needing
to worry about driving home after the evening! Something
similar will be suggested for 2009!
The entry fee of £260pp includes the following:
Buffet Dinner and accommodation on Friday. English breakfast,
morning coffee, lunch, afternoon cream tea, Gala Dinner
and accommodation on Saturday. English breakfast, morning
coffee and lunch on Sunday. Entry fees in to all attractions,
rally plate, comprehensive tulip roadbook and souvenier
finisher’s awards, plus the services of RAC Breakdown
Assistance during the event, are also included. The
organising team always try to ensure that local specialities
are included in the fayre offered over the weekend and
in Shropshire there is a wealth of high quality local
produce that will form the major part of our cuisine
over the weekend. There are also several vineyards,
breweries and cider farms that should be included in
a longer visit.
If you wish to enter the event for free, just raise
enough in sponsorship and you will receive a free entry.
For every £125 you raise we will deduct £25
off your entry fee. Every penny raised from the event
will be donated to our two chosen charities: Against
Breast Cancer & Orchid – Fighting Male Cancer.
